The most important thing I wish I knew since a medical student works tirelessly to get into medical school is that health, maturity, and individuality are just as important as all the rewards you get through academics. Going into medical school I knew that my peers are tremendously diverse people who have many experiences and that the key to individuals having such a cohesive trajectory was our desire for work-life balance.  Remember to become an individual and enjoy time with your friends and loved ones. Many of these students, like me, are people who have spent time gaining life experience and strengthening our applications. I worked at Starbucks for six months, and I can say that I talked to more doctors about my time there during residency interviews than all of my medical and research experience put together. Not everyone needs to work in a service job, but you will find a path learned in that job that is valuable for any kind of job between being a doctor. Not all people have the same specific path to medical school, but in case you want it bad enough and are willing, to be honest with yourself, however, a long time is necessary you can get there.
