Things You Should Know About Medical School

The medical school curriculum is rich in topics related to biology, biochemistry, and physics, which makes undergraduate studies a wonderful time to explore topics not explicitly covered during those four years. It’s a great opportunity to learn more about the world and yourself, as well as to become a well-rounded individual who will oversee work and socialization both at home and in a wellness setting.

Sometimes it can feel like medical school is a sort of bubble in which we are protected from what is going on in the world around us. But it’s important to always remember that the person should become a health professional’s top priority, and spending some time getting to know them and analyzing them as an individual who has a story can go a long way toward improving how we care for them. Understand Determinants of Health

The most important thing I wish I knew since a medical student works tirelessly to get into medical school is that health, maturity, and individuality are just as important as all the rewards you get through academics. Going into medical school I knew that my peers are tremendously diverse people who have many experiences and that the key to individuals having such a cohesive trajectory was our desire for work-life balance.  Remember to become an individual and enjoy time with your friends and loved ones. As for maturity and individuality, just realize that the student body that makes any medical school is usually not the 22-year-old celebrity that was 4.0, and the best thing about this program.

Many of these students, like me, are people who have spent time gaining life experience and strengthening our applications. I worked at Starbucks for six months, and I can say that I talked to more doctors about my time there during residency interviews than all of my medical and research experience put together. Not everyone needs to work in a service job, but you will find a path learned in that job that is valuable for any kind of job between being a doctor. Not all people have the same specific path to medical school, but in case you want it bad enough and are willing, to be honest with yourself, however, a long time is necessary you can get there.

Reduce Stress

stressTake advantage of relaxing and having fun any way you can with the time you have earned from studying. The importance in medical school certainly skyrockets with the mix of classes, sections, research, along other tasks. Burnout is currently a big problem in the health care profession, the problem doesn’t have to go any further if we know how to handle it. Sometimes it can be tempting in the direction of test a second measure (as I did with a medical school inside my last period), but remember, the habit of training a physician is a couple years-long marathon, along with also the last thing you want to do in a marathon is spend all your energy from the initial section of this race.
